Living in this Moment

For a number of years, I have occasionally driven by a rustic old barn on my way to the city.
And I have always admired the setting of this barn. It's red shingled roof, interesting gables and dormers and beautifully aged barnboard set against the rolling green hillside.
No other buildings around, just the crop of the year, whether it be corn, soybeans or grains.

I took a photo of it years back, but now wanted to photograph it digitally.
But it seemed everytime I was going by, the weather was not suitable, the lighting was all wrong or the crops were not at their peak.

Or I was simply in too much of a hurry to stop.

Yesterday we went by and I had my camera with me.
Lighting and weather and crops were at their best.
Came over the hill and slowed down only to discover the barn was gone!
Nothing left but the foundation.
The opportunity lost forever.

We need to remember to stop and smell the roses.
Sometimes we do.
But there are times, we think we should wait til we find a rose more deserving.
And the moment is lost.

This is the moment to live in.
